How a C4F7N/CO2/O2 Gas Mixing and Filling System Works

For manufacturers and laboratories working with C4F7N gas mixtures, gas preparation forms an important part of the testing process. A mixing and filling system must deliver the specified composition and fill the equipment under controlled conditions.

The KSTONE technical proposal describes a system that combines gas supply preparation, flow control, buffer vessels, compression and vacuum functions.

Preparing the gas supply

The proposed arrangement uses separate supplies of C4F7N, CO2 and O2. The C4F7N and CO2 supply paths include vaporization and pressure regulation before the gases enter the mixing section. The O2 path includes pressure regulation.

This arrangement prepares each gas for controlled delivery. The required configuration depends on the gas supply conditions and the intended application.

Controlling the mixture

Each gas supply path has a mass flow controller. These controllers regulate the component flows to prepare a mixture with the specified composition.

Customers should define the target composition and how the concentration is expressed before equipment selection. The proposal specifies a volume-based mixture ratio. Gas-specific controller calibration and the agreed operating conditions also need to form part of the technical specification.

The switchgear manufacturer’s approved gas specification should determine the target mixture.

Buffering, compression and filling

The process diagram places a low-pressure buffer vessel after the mixing section, followed by a compressor and a high-pressure buffer vessel. The mixed gas then passes to the filling outlet.

The proposed filling control monitors pressure and stops filling when the equipment reaches the preset pressure. The system also includes a pressure-limiting function.

The project specification should state whether pressure values are absolute or gauge values and identify the relevant temperature conditions.

Checking gas quality

Gas preparation should include a defined verification step. The proposal includes a separate analyzer for C4F7N concentration, CO2, O2 and moisture.

Operators can compare the measured results with the approved gas specification before proceeding with testing. This provides a check on the prepared gas and creates a record for later recovery and reuse.

Information needed for equipment selection

To discuss a suitable configuration, customers should provide the gas components, target mixture ratio, required gas quantity, filling pressure and expected operating temperature. Gas supply arrangements, analysis requirements and recovery plans should also be included.

KSTONE can use these application details as the starting point for a project-specific gas mixing and filling proposal.
